Community Advisory Board

WUNC Community Advisory Board

North Carolina Public Radio-WUNC's continued success depends upon the commitment and dedication of its Community Advisory Board.  Community Advisory Board members generously volunteer their time and effort to help station.  Members come from all walks of life, but share a strong interest in, and affection for, public radio and WUNC in particular and an open mind about the role of public broadcasting in today's media landscape.

Members of the Community Advisory Board are appointed by the General Manager and Advisory Board Chair.

The Advisory Board meets regularly, three to four times annually and is composed of individuals who are representative of the diverse needs and interests of the station's listening base.

The Advisory Board's primary functions include:

  • Assist station staff on seeking and maintaining strong relationships with community partners
  • Participating in and serving as advisors to the strategic planning process
  • Working actively as 'ambassadors' for the station in the community by being well informed on WUNC's mission, programming, strengths and challenges
  • Introduce the station to new prospects and donors.

The role of the WUNC Community Advisory Board is purely advisory; fiduciary governance of the WUNC rests ultimately with the Board of Trustees of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Community Advisory Boards are not mandatory for public radio stations licensed to state universities.  WUNC chose to establish a community advisory board to help increase its connection to the communities we serve.

Meetings:

Advisory Board meetings are open to the public and take place at WUNC's conference room located at 120 Friday Center Drive, Chapel Hill, NC  27517.   The advisory board will meet three to four times this year, dates and times of the meetings are posted to our website in advance.  For questions, please contact General Manager Connie Walker at 919-445-9150.

The next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, February 17th, 2010.  There will be orientation for new board members from 1:00 to 4:00, followed by a full board meeting from 4:00 to 6:00.

Certain meetings or portions of meetings may be closed in order to address confidential information or proprietary matters.
